Final Project Assignment

In this class, a significant portion of your grade will be based on your completion of a substantial final paper. This paper should enage with a current issue in intellectual property, copyright, or the ownership of ideas in ways that point toward eventual publication in an academic or professional journal. I expect the finished draft to be between 15 and 25 pages, with Ph.D. students tending toward the larger end of the spectrum, and Masters students tending toward the leaner end.

This is our core assignment for the whole of the semester, and I encourage you to commence an ongoing research effort that will build toward a successful project. To that end, I ask that you e-mail me a brief proposal identifying your chosen topic, your preliminary lines of argument and your target journal or journals via e-mail at 8550@logie.net by noon on Friday, October 10. I will offer you contructive feedback and connect you with any resources I am aware of in the following week's class.

The paper itself must consistently cite sources according to the target journal's preferred citation system. Beyond that, you have considerable leeway. Please be aware that I will be reluctant in the extreme to offer extensions on this assignment. Please budget your time and always err on the side of asking questions sooner rather than later.

The project is due at the beginning of class, Wednesday, December 10.
